Want iMessage on your Android phone? You’ll now nee Beeper Mini… and a Mac

Beeper Mini – the newest app that aims to close the blue/green swath in between Android as well as Apple phones by the introduction of iMessaging to devices that aren’t iPhones. It could offer a way to bypass the latest restrictions Apple has thrown its way it, but you’ll require an Mac.

To use iMessage on Beeper Mini, you’ve had to have the Apple computer to create IMessage registration data. However, up until recently, Beeper’s parent company Beeper used its own collection of Macs to create the necessary information. This concept is great in theory however it is not as effective in reality.

According to the company’s explanation in an Reddit article since the majority of Beeper users shared the same registration information, they could be it was an “easy target for Apple.” The plan is to allow everyone to have their own unique registration data however, to do this you’ll require a Mac or at the minimum, you’ll need access to someone you love or a friend and you won’t have to purchase one of the top MacBooks or Macs to yourself.

According to Beeper it is true that this registration information will be available via Beeper Cloud (Mac version) which will then be able to be utilized in Beeper Mini on other devices. The code that powers the data generator will be released accessible via GitHub for those who prefer to manage the process by yourself.

Beeper Mini-2

If you’re using a person other’s Mac there are a few things to keep in mind. On the bright side, Beeper says that in its tests it discovered that between 10 and 20 iMessage users are able to use the same registration information which means that borrowing the Mac does not prohibit your friend from gaining access to Beeper. (Though it’s hard to tell how long this will be valid. …)

The drawback of this is your friend may need to be ready to assist you at least one time. The registration data for new registrations is said to be created every month or week. Therefore, you’ll frequently have to request an updated code. You’ll still have to re-register in the event you owned your own Mac however it’d be much simpler managing your Beeper connection in your own way.

A no-win scenario?

While Beeper is fighting an impressive battle, this win seems more like another nail to the coffin. If you’re an Mac or not accessing iMessage on your Android phone is now more difficult – and is it worth the effort instead of using an alternative messaging service such as WhatsApp and one of the other options that are shared between Apple or Android.

Given the size of Apple’s resources, it’s an issue of the time, not the date, Apple finds a way to stop this new Beeper method of working. If it ever loses its battle against Beeper then Apple could play the trump card by making iMessage on Android it self – but it’s probably not its only option.

Beeper Mini-3

I’d like Beeper to be successful. Although its focus is on iMessage at present, the ultimate aim is to be a single-stop application that connects all of your messaging services such as texting, RCS iMessage, WhatsApp and more it sounds very useful. However, for the moment, it appears that the app will be smashed by the power of Apple.

Only thing that can help it survive is some sort of anti-competitive suit similar to the ones we’ve observed filed against both the Google Play Store and Apple App Store in recent years. However, Apple has won this App Store lawsuit, though I’m not a lawyer, it’s much more difficult to claim that iMessage as a monopoly, when) Apple makes no money in it, and 2)) there exist other messaging applications in the App Store for iPhones.

We’ll be waiting to see what happens however, as our US editor-in chief has explained previously, it will need a significant change of mind from Apple for us to see the Android alternative to iMessage.
